HOW MUCH WATER CAN WE SAVE?
Average water usage in a domestic household has been the subject of many investigations over the last
10 years and it is recognised that the following percentages apply.
Toilets are responsible for between 25-40% of total water usage.
Personal washing uses a further 30-35%.
Laundry / washing machines use a further10-13%.
Gardens use 6%.
Car washing uses 2%
The remaining water is used for drinking, cooking, and dishwashing.
The UK's households collectively use approximately 17,250 million litres of water a day, with an average
daily use per property of 340 litres, and individual use calculated at approximately 150 litres per day.
With Britannia rainwater recycling system installed supplying all garden, car washing, toilet and washing
machine use, an average household will save between 43 - 61% and 150 - 205 litres of clean fresh
drinking water every day.
A family of four has the potential to save up to 100,000 litres a year.
Commercial businesses such as offices, schools, housing developments, and factories use substantially
more water on average due to greater demand during working hours.
As these establishments generally have larger roof areas, savings achieved on Britannia rainwater
recycling system will be relatively greater with a shorter pay-back period.
On an employee relations level, the installation and continued use of a correctly sized and maintained
rainwater harvesting system at the work place will 'show by example' and may educate individuals
considering saving water in the homes of friends and family. |
